GHS was happy to have the opportunity to partner with Maine-Endwell’s Entrepreneurship class this semester and get the students involved in our marketing campaign. Mrs. Murat has been teaching their business class for the past 3 years and says that “providing the students with real world experience needs to be a priority,” and GHS definitely agrees!

The class has been gearing up for a regional marketing competition hosted by Binghamton University called the “Greater Binghamton Scholastic Challenge”. This gave them a chance to take a break from that and refocus on getting involved with GHS.

Our Business Development Manager and President made a visit to the class to explain what separates GHS from banks and how we always put our members first. The students were then given free rein to create a commercial for GHS about any of our services. Twenty-three entries were made before the class had an open forum to narrow it down to the “Top Ten”. Jennifer and Howie then made another visit to the class for the top ten commercial presentations where the students explained why they thought they deserved to be in the “Top Three”. The Three Finalists now have their commercials posted on GHS’ Facebook page for the community to weigh in and vote for the winner!

We want to encourage our members to get involved by sharing posts and voting for their favorite commercial from these students. The contest will be running until the end of May and a winner will be announced the first week of June.

Mrs. Murat has done a fantastic job to help us facilitate this great opportunity. “Social Media is much more advantageous now than it ever had been” and that is why she integrates it into her curriculum so heavily. She also uses social media to share her students work with everyone. Not too long ago, social media sites were avoided at all costs in the schools. When students completed their assignments, it would sit on the teacher’s desk and the only people to see their work would be the teacher. Today that is not the case; Social Media provides a whole new platform, where their work can be reviewed by everyone, which encourages students to really do their absolute best.
