Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley

We are a no-kill shelter, and do not breed discriminate. The Schoharie County Animal Shelter is the only shelter in Schoharie county for both cats and dogs. They are a non-profit 501(c)3 funded by donations, and pay for our veterinary care and medications.

Cooperative Extension puts useful, research-based information in the hands of residents of Schoharie and Otsego. In addition to what you'll find on the website, they offer free or low-cost workshops on many topics that may be useful to people and families. Community Maternity Services

Community Maternity Services (CMS), an agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, was founded in 1971 as a single residential program providing services to pregnant adolescents. The agency has grown through the years to meet the changing needs of the children, adolescents, and families in the communities. Today, Community Maternity Services provides a continuum of services, including care for pregnant and parenting adolescents and their families, group residence and family care for children, foster care services, and respite services.

Literacy New York- Fulton, Montgomery, and Schoharie

Literacy New York (LNY) works to create and strengthen literate communities throughout all of New York State, and has done so for over the past 40 years. LNY provides: technical assistance, training, program support, and advocacy for adult literacy. LNY helps build the organizational capacity of community based literacy programs. These local programs, in turn, provide literacy instruction to adults who want to improve their literacy skills.

Mobile Crisis Assessment Team

MCAT’S mental health staff provide hope during crises to children and adults in Oneida, Herkimer, Schoharie, Otsego, Delaware and Chenango Counties. MCAT responds to crises where they occur face-to-face, virtually and on the telephone. They operate a local crisis line, the 988 line and a mobile crisis response for the region. The MCAT Team is available 24/7/365 for support to individuals, families and community providers. There is no fee for MCAT services. The MCAT program is nationally accredited through the American Association of Suicidology. In addition to formal debriefing and community outreach, MCAT offer postvention support.

Regional Food Bank

The Regional Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to more than 1,000 partner agencies and programs feeding neighbors in need throughout 23 counties of northeastern New York. The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 350,000 people each month. In 2024, the Food Bank distributed more than 54 million pounds of food (enough for 45 million meals) to neighbors in need. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks.

Schoharie County Community Action Program

Schoharie County Community Action Program, Inc. (SCCAP), a non-profit human service organization; serving Schoharie County residents since 1965. SCCAP is part of a nationwide network of 1,000+ agencies and one of 47 in New York State incorporated to address the causes of poverty. Programs administered under SCCAP’s umbrella focus on addressing the barriers families face while seeking to overcome economic instability. SCCAP’s primary goal has not changed in 59 years. An evolving base of programs, services and wrap-around supports such as energy reduction measures, child care resource and referral, health and nutrition, access to health insurance, employment and training, family support and resources, supervised visitation and more provide a comprehensive system of support. SCCAP and its community partners collaborate through advocacy, referrals and coordinated service delivery with the goal of moving families toward economic security. Community Action believes an investment in families is an investment in community.

Schoharie County provides services to individuals with mental health concerns, substance use Concerns, and/or developmental disabilities, through both county-operated/staffed clinics/ providers and contracts with other local service providers. These services include but are not limited to: outpatient mental health and chemical dependency clinics, health home care management services, advocacy services, children and family services (Coordinated Children’s Services Initiative), and management of contracts funded by New York State Aid.

Schoharie County Rural Preservation Corporation

The objective of the Schoharie County Rural Preservation Corporation will establish mechanisms to accomplish effective rural housing planning within the county. They identify pressing rural preservation and housing needs that exist within the county and develop viable programs to attain their alleviation. The purposes of the Schoharie County Rural Preservation Corporation are to provide assistance to home owners and renters in the form of training, information and other activities to aid them in repairing and maintaining their homes, provide assistance to those families who are ineligible for low-income loans or grants to obtain financing in the open market in order that they may be able to repair and/or maintain their homes, and to provide housing to residents whether by technical assistance, financial subsidy assistance or by owning and making available decent housing.

SCHOPEG

Schopeg Access, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501c corporation, started in 1989 to bring the advantages of public, educational and governmental access programming to the citizens of Schoharie, parts of Schenectady Counties. Their programming, serving the Schoharie county region, is broadcast on the Time Warner cable television system channels 1301 and 1303. Programming can be viewed on You Tube, search for Schopeg. Schopeg has High Def. Cameras, microphones, mixers, monitors and lighting equipment for use by the community for field production. The mission of Schopeg is to enhance local communication access for the citizens of its cablecasting area. They do this by cablecasting television programs created by Schopeg volunteers, independent producers, students and local individuals trained to use the equipment.
