College Scholarship Opportunities with GHS FCU
GHS’s Scholarship Program offers our membership and community two scholarship opportunities for high school seniors attending two- or four-year accredited educational institutions for the first time in the coming year.
Our mission is to help our community achieve financial wellness, and avoiding debt is an important step in attaining that goal. For young adults building on the foundations of their financial situations, debt – especially student loan debt – can put the upcoming generation at a disadvantage. Additionally, one of the biggest barriers for students interested in continuing education is cost and fear of going too far into debt.
2026 Scholarship Applications
GHS Federal Credit Union is proud to partner once again with the New York Credit Union Association to offer graduating high school seniors the opportunity to earn financial support for their college journey. With just one application, students are automatically entered into two scholarship programs—the NYCUA statewide awards and the GHS local awards.
For students across our field of membership, GHS is deeply committed to supporting educational success as part of our broader mission of financial wellness. We believe strong communities are built by investing in the next generation, and our scholarship program is one of the many ways we help local students gain confidence, stability, and opportunity as they take their next steps. Important Dates:
Jan. 9, 2026: Deadline for students to submit applications
Late April - Early May 2026: Your credit union will receive notification regarding 2026 winners and awards.
Submission Instructions:
1. The applicant must save and complete the 2026 Scholarship Application.
Please download and save the application before you complete the form in the link below. Please be sure to save the application once again after you have completed it.
2. Obtain a Credit Union Verification Code from your credit union to verify eligibility. Please call 800-732-4447, or email marketing@ghsfcu.com and ask for the college scholarship application code. Please note that you will need to provide your member number and confirm your ID to receive the code.
Applicants must be in good standing with their credit union
Applicants will be attending a 2-4 year accredited educational institution
Trade and Vocational Schools will also be eligible
3. The applicant and their parent or guardian must complete the Certification and Release Authorization on the last page of the application.

GHS Federal Credit Union began offering scholarship opportunities to our members starting in 2020, with our first awards in 2021. In 2020, GHS proudly participated in the New York Credit Union Association’s (NYCUA) statewide scholarship program, which offers eligible students a chance to win funds ranging from $500 to $1,500 for the upcoming academic year. In addition to offering this scholarship opportunity, GHS executive staff and Board of Directors instated our own scholarship, awarding students up to $2,000.
The program has an immense impact on college-bound students across New York State. In 2022, in addition to GHS’s $2,000 scholarship recipient, the NYCUA awarded $26,250 in scholarships to 45 talented students across the state. The initiative reflects the credit union's core philosophy of community engagement and empowerment.
It is an honor to aid our members and provide young members with financial assistance and support as they embark on the next chapter of their journey. Scholarship FAQ
Who can apply?
GHS members are eligible to apply to the scholarship program through GHS. If you are not a member yet, join today! Anyone who lives, works, attends school, worships or volunteers in Broome, Chenango or Tioga County, or anyone who is related to someone meeting those qualifications, are eligible to join GHS.
Where do I apply?
Download and fill our the application here on our website, then submit the application to the online portal with supporting documents.
What if I miss the deadline?
Unfortunately the deadline is a final date. We will not accept any applications past the date specified.
How do I get my verification code?
Call GHS at 800-732-4447, and ask for the verification code for submitting an application.
Can I win both scholarships?
Yes! While we offer both opportunities through GHS, the NYCUA scholarships are selected by their panel, while GHS board and executives select the winners of our scholarship. You are able to win both!
Do I need two (2) applications for both scholarships?
No, you only need to complete the application and submit your materials to the NYCUA site. We will receive all of our applicants from them to select our winners with the same materials and criteria.
